At about 3:30 p.m., November 30, a villager found an adult Giant panda in Wawushan, Meishan City, Sichuan Province. Local villagers informed the Local Wild Animal Protection Station and Forestry Department immediately. Soon, protection measures were taken on the spot, after preliminary judgment, the giant panda should be ill, so the panda was given first aid.
After 9 o 'clock in the evening, reporters came to the scene and found that the Giant panda was curled up in the woods, head up, butt down, turning over from time to time and shaking her head, which looks very cute, but she was in low spirits. Li wanfang, the first person to find the giant panda, said she had just come home from work, when she heard a noise in the woods and found it was a Giant panda.
Li wanfang, the villager, recalled: "I saw a giant panda first and I was very excited. I thought a panda came to my house, this was so unreal and beyond my imagination! Then I returned to my room and took some apples to feed. But it had no interests in the apples and completely motionless. I guess it might be ill and need some help, but I didn’t know how did the giant panda get injured and what kind of help should I offer. So I contacted the staff from the Conservation Station, hope they could give it professional treatment."
After careful observation and detailed inspection, experts believed that the giant panda was lying on a higher slope, they had to give the panda an anesthetic first, and then transferred it to the room for first aid. After half an hour's rescue, with the help of the villagers around, the panda was sent to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
After initial diagnosis, Yangzhi, the director of Animal Disease Prevention and Control Department, said that observed from the panda’s teeth and skin, the age should between 16 to 20 years old, weight about 70 kg, and it is a female giant panda.
This panda was underweight, loss of appetite and illness had emaciated her for several days, the emergency treatment had to be given as soon as possible.
Experts have carried out anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment, supplemented water, electrolytes and other field first-aid operations. After three and a half hours of first aid, the panda's situation improved. We hope she could recover as soon as possible and go back to her homeland then reunited with her family.
